Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has admitted it was U2 that made the band rise to the occasion with their live shows.
The Irish megastars took Snow Patrol out on the road, and now Lightbody has said it was that experience that made them realise what they could achieve onstage.
Lightbody told The Sun: “When U2 took us on tour in 2005 and then the subsequent three years on the 360 tour, they showed us the virtue of a show compared to a gig. Even when we were playing bigger gigs around ‘Chasing Cars’ and ‘Eyes Open’ we were still turning up for gigs like we had just fallen out of the student’s union at 3am.”
He went on to joke that for their forthcoming arena shows, which include a date at the 02 in London, they will have to invest in a “giant robot polar bear” to measure up.
The band are currently gearing up to release their sixth album ‘Fallen Empires’ on November 11. Tomorrow (November 6) they return home to Belfast to perform at the MTV Europe Music Awards. You can watch the video for their single ‘Called Out In The Dark’ at the bottom of the page.
