Per la BBC i Led Zeppelin erano antiquati
Bocciati ai provini per l’emittente britannica nel 1969
2009-12-29 – Antiquati e poco convincenti: così i produttori della BBC giudicarono i Led Zeppelin dopo un’audizione nel 1969. Un giudizio simile a quello espresso su David Bowie e Marc Bolan. I fatti si svolsero così: quarant’anni fa il gruppo di Robert Plant e Jimmy Page fu invitato per un provino davanti a un gruppo di produttori, ma furono respinti con varie motivazioni: ci fu chi disse che la loro musica non era adatta ad essere suonata di giorno da un’emittente, ma si rivolgeva solo a un pubblico di specialisti; un altro la definì derivativa e poco convincente, un altro ancora disse che avevano un suono antiquato.
I Led Zeppelin, di cui facevano parte anche il bassista John Paul Jones e il batterista John Bonham, suonarono diverse session per la radio della BBC.
David Bowie fu giudicato privo di personalità , mentre i T-Rex furono etichettati come delle schifezze presuntuose.
Questi giudizi poco lungimiranti sono stati resi noti di recente in Gran Bretagna dopo che una giornalista ha avuto accesso agli archivi della BBC. Oggi è il linguaggio usato dai giudici a suonare pomposo e ridicolo. Alla fine i Led Zeppelin riuscirono a passare, così come molti altri artisti, grazie soprattutto all’intuizione del grande dj John Peel che in tempi più recenti scoprì anche Smiths e White Stripes.
