It’s been a year full of box sets for R.E.M., who have already released their MTV Unplugged package, plus the six-DVD collective REMTV. Now, the defunct rock icons have announced another box set, this time assembling their 7-inch singles. Called 7IN – 83-88, the set will be out on December 9 through Universal.
The box includes 11 singles from the band’s early years, all released between 1983 and 1998 on I.R.S. Records. This goes from their debut single, “Radio Free Europe,” to star-making later singles “The One I Love” and “It’s The End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine).”
All of the discs are housed in replicas of their original pictures sleeves. Two of the 7-inches (“Wendell Gee” and “Finest Worksong”) are making their North American debut in the format, having previously been exclusive to the UK.
