After the Rolling Stone premiere of “American Dream Plan B,” Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have shared two more tracks off their upcoming, more rock-focused, album Hypnotic Eye. “U Get Me High,” is a mid-tempo declaration of affection featuring a screeching guitar solo and crashing cymbals, while “Red River” boasts a more melodic chorus about self-reflection and hypnotic piano rhythm giving way to a biting guitar solo.
Hypnotic Eye will see release on July 29th and will follow Petty and the Heartbreakers’ blues rock-inspired 2010 effort Mojo. The band has been working on the LP for nearly three years now, recording at Petty’s home studio in Malibu and fleshing out tracks at the band’s L.A. rehearsal space, the Clubhouse.
“I knew I wanted to do a rock & roll record,” Petty recently told Rolling Stone about Hypnotic Eye. “We hadn’t made a straight hard-rockin’ record, from beginning to end, in a long time.”
