Adele’s ’21’ has surpassed classic albums from both Pink Floyd and The Beatles in its stay at the top of the US Billboard chart.
The album, which has so far sold over 12 million copies worldwide, is set to spend its 16th week at the top of the US Billboard chart, beating both Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ and The Beatles’ ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, which each spent 15 weeks at the top of the chart.
’21’ has now drawn level with the Titanic soundtrack, which also spent 16 weeks at the top of the chart in 1998. It becomes the 20th album in history to spend 16 weeks at Number One.
Adele’s second album also enjoyed its 33rd straight week of sales of more than 100,000, becoming the first album to do so since Usher’s ‘Confessions’ album.
’21’ is set to remain the UK top five this weekend, a full year after it was first released.
