Michael Stipe of REM was in attendance on the opening night of The xx’s first ever European tour.

The singer watched the show from a private balcony at the band’s recent show Point Ephemere in Paris.

Interviewed by The Sun on the night of the show, singer Romy Madley Croft said she hadn’t met the REM frontman, adding: “I’m not sure I’ll be able to say anything if he comes to say hi. It’s just bizarre he is here.”

Croft went on to to explain that he was not the band’s only well-known admirer, explaining that Courtney Love had left a message on their voicemail.
