Prince a Montreux, biglietti finiti
Prince sells out in eight minutes at Montreux Festival
July 5, 2009
More than 7,000 tickets for two concerts by Prince at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland later this month sold out within eight minutes of going on sale Saturday, the organisers said.
Despite prices ranging between 195 Swiss francs for standing room and 480 francs (442 US dollars, 316 euros) for a seat, and a two ticket per person limit, the shows were fully booked within seven minutes and 58 seconds.
Prince is due to play two consecutive concerts on July 18, the closing night of the lakeside festival.
The multiple Grammy award and Oscar winner’s appearance at Montreux was only announced on Friday, the opening night, following weeks of rumours.
Two years ago, 4,500 Prince tickets were sold in 10 minutes, then a record for the western Swiss festival which is commonly nine-tenths booked by the time it starts each summer.
The 95 paying concerts over the next two weeks include Steely Dan, Herbie Hancock, Black Eyed Peas, Alice Cooper, Steve Winwood, Monty Alexander, Lily Allen, Wyclef Jean, Marianne Faithfull, John Fogerty, Grace Jones and B.B. King among an eclectic host of top billings.
