Prince closed this year’s Roskildefestival last tonight (July 4) with a headline appearance on the Orangestage, which featured a selection of his most well known hits and a series of covers.
Rounding off the 40th anniversary of the Danish event, which also sawheadline performances by Gorillaz,Them Crooked Vultures and Muse, the purple one played for just over two hours.
Joined on stage by a full backing band, the set began with a medley of his previous singles ‘Let’s Go Crazy’and ‘Delirious’, which lasted almost 15 minutes.
Following up with ‘1999’ and ‘Little Red Corvette’, the performance then included covers of Chic‘s ‘Le Freak’, Bill Withers‘ ‘Lean On Me’,Sinead O’Connor‘s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, Jackson 5‘s ‘Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)’and Sly And The Family Stone‘s‘Everyday People’.
Dressed in a white billowy number, which was emblazoned with an image of him from his upcoming new album,’20Ten’, Prince also cleared up the ongoing debate on what people should call him.
“What’s my name? Denmark,” he asked the crowd, to which they replied “Prince“. “Ok, now people don’t need to ask what I want to be referred to as that’s my name and this is my song to you.”
Prince than jumped straight into‘Kiss’, which caused mass cheering and dancing from the 65,000 strong crowd and brought the festival to a close.

Earlier in the day, The National showcased material from their fifth studio album ‘High Violet’ on the Arena stage. Playing recent singles ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio’ and ‘Anyone’s Ghost’, the 17,000 capacity tent was fit to burst.
Meanwhile, despite four days of sweltering temperatures at the bash,Kasabian still managed to keep the crowd moving during their 15-song set.
The Leicester band gave outings to ‘Fast Fuse’, ‘Shoot The Runner’ and‘Underdog’ early on, before later performing ‘Fire’, ‘Vlad The Impaler’and finishing with ‘L.S.F.’.
