Despite art designer Stanley Donwood claiming that Radiohead’s new album was far from complete, it’s been announced that the band’s ninth studio album will be released on April 14th via Oculus Rift. Yep, this Oculus Rift.
The follow-up to 2011’s King Of Limbs is titled Negative Space, and will be released as an app on the Virtual Reality platform in conjunction with Dawnnchoruss Ltd. and XL.
Not much has been announced regarding the nature of the app or the pricing, but it’s thought that “listeners will be thrown into a world built around the album’s artwork” which oddly enough wasn’t created by the aforementioned Donwood, but french visual artist Amélie Petit Moreau (namely her Optical Research series from 2011, which you can see below).
It doesn’t stop there though: the album is comprised of just one track (also titled ‘Negative Space’), which runs in at 62 minutes in length.
This story is updating. More news when we have it.
Update: the original story claimed the abum was called Bring me To Life. We apologise for the mistake.
