NEW ORDER, NEW ALBUM

New Order have confirmed the release of a new album.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the band said that two songs have been completed, ‘Plastic’ and ‘Restless’, the first of which they debuted live last year. The latter features the Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands. The album is mooted for an autumn release.

The album will be the band’s first since bass player Peter Hook left the group in 2007 but will feature the return of keyboard player Gillian Gilbert. Speaking about the writing process for the record, which will be the band’s first since 2005’s ‘Waiting For The Siren’s Call’ – and 2013’s ‘Lost Sirens’ which was actually recorded at the same time – frontman Bernard Sumner commented: “It’s rainy and cold and wet outside. It’s dark. It’s a good time to write.”

Drummer Stephen Morris added: “That explains a lot of the band’s content, doesn’t it?. Bernard likes to be alone while writing – alone with his wine.”

Last year the band signed with long-standing independent label Mute Records. Upon signing the group label founder Daniel Miller commented: “This is an exciting new chapter for both Mute and New Order and I feel privileged to be working with artists with such a long, creative and successful history. When the possibility of us working together first came up, I was invited to hear some of the new material and immediately had no doubts whatsoever that Mute would be the right home for New Order. We’ve already had a number of creative conversations, and I am looking towards an exciting future.”
