It’s been more than five years since Sufjan Stevens released the stellar Age of Adz LP, but in the interim he has kept himself very busy, to no surprise. The always prolific artist has scored a ballet and a rodeo documentary, released music with his Sysyphus side project, debated typography and of course released more Christmas tunes.
In addition to all of that, Stevens has been at work on a full-length follow-up LP, and details have finally emerged about what to expect. The album, named for his mother and stepfather, is titled Carrie & Lowell and is being billed as the rapidly-turning-avant-garde artist’s return to his “folk roots.”
You can watch a teaser trailer below as well as view Carrie & Lowell’s artwork and tracklisting, which will include collaborations from Casey Foubert, Laura Veirs, Nedelle Torrisi, Sean Carey, Ben Lester and Thomas Bartlett.
