Led Zeppelin have shared a new video for ‘Rock And Roll’ to coincide with their reissue of ‘Led Zeppelin IV’.
The song is an alternate take of the original album track, released in 1971, now remastered by Jimmy Page and released today (October 27).
“As a song, it was actually kind of punky, pre-punk,” says bassist John Paul Jones in an official statement. “It was really fast too, on stage anyway. It just got really quick, a lot of energy. It’s a lot of fun to play. The crowd loved it. We loved it”.
Page adds: “‘Rock And Roll’ has just got that cheeky energy about. It’s a party. ‘It’s been a long time since I rock and rolled.’ It says it all really. It’s great lyrics and it’s a great performance.”
‘Led Zeppelin IV’ and ‘Houses Of The Holy’ have both been reissued in expanded editions today (October 27), following recent releases of ‘Led Zeppelin’, ‘Led Zeppelin II’ and ‘Led Zeppelin III’.
Both albums are accompanied by a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album. Formats include single and deluxe double edition CDs, single and deluxe double vinyl LP, download and a Super Deluxe Boxed Set featuring the CD and vinyl editions, a book and a numbered print of the album cover.
Released in November 1971, ‘Led Zeppelin IV’ is the third best-selling album in US history, having been certified 23 times platinum by the RIAA.
Meanwhile, Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’ has been named the Greatest Guitar Riff Of All Time by BBC Radio 2 listeners. Other riffs featured in the top ten, which was revealed by Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2 on August 25, included Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and ‘Back In Black’ by AC/DC. Speaking about their win, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page said he was surprised by its success. “I’m knocked out by this, because I didn’t expect that to happen,” he said.
