The Jerry Garcia Band opened March of 1978 in Berkeley, but from there they moved east, playing cities as large as Boston and Philadelphia and suburbs as small as Commack, New York, and Pawtucket, Rhode Island. On the 22nd, the band made their California homecoming at the Sebastopol Veteran’s Hall, and today, that show is being officially released as the fourth volume of the ongoing “Garcialive” series. Below, stream their previously unreleased take on “Mission in the Rain,” the second song from their second of two sets.
In this incarnation, the Garcia band features John Kahn, Buzz Buchanan, Maria Muldaur, Keith and Donna Godchaux and of course, Jerry himself. Their performance includes not only original favorites like “Mission” but also covers of tracks like “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You),” “Simple Twist of Fate,” “Mystery Train” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”
