Here Lies Love to Open in London!
David Byrne | July 01, 2014
For those of you living in London, or even for folks within train distance, here is some exciting news—well, exciting for me.
The National Theater is producing Here Lies Love, which will be the first production in their Dorfman Theatre. They have been interested in this piece ever since it opened at the Public Theater last year (it’s back up there, by the way, and better than ever!) and offered us first shot at the newly refurbished space they are opening this fall.
Like the NY iteration, we’ll turn the building into a dance club with lights, sound and drink—that’s the immersive world this show takes place in, as Imelda Marcos loved a disco…she even had a mirror ball installed in her NY Upper East Side townhouse.
We’ll be there rehearsing in September, the show will go into previews (which means no press while we continue to tweak it) on September 30th, and the official opening will be on October 14th. It will run there until January 8, 2015.
I’ll be there, on the floor, for most of the rehearsals and previews. Probably singing along (to myself—though sometimes I get carried away). I suspect Norm will be there sometimes, as well. There will be seats on a balcony we’ll construct, but I recommend getting on the dance floor with the crowd (and some of the actors).
The cast album is out now—and available here. I checked, and the actors don’t mind if the audience sings along.
A bunch of us are off to Manila in a week!
