Queen have announced the release of a new posthumous album featuring unreleased songs sung by late frontman Freddie Mercury.
In an interview with BBC Radio (via Ultimate Classic Rock), guitarist Brian May revealed the compilation would likely be titled Queen Forever and surface by year’s end.
The included materials dates back to the 1980s, according to May, who added: “It is quite emotional. It is the big, big ballads and the big, big epic sound.”
May and bandmate Roger Taylor are handling the album’s restoration process themselves. “We had to start from scratch because we only had scraps,” May explained. “But knowing how it would have happened if we had finished it, I can sit there and make it happen with modern technology.”
May also previously revealed plans to release unreleased collaborations between Mercury and Michael Jackson. It’s unclear if that material is part of the Queen Forever compilation.
In the meantime, May and Taylor will hit the road next month with singer Adam Lambert for Queen’s first full-fledged North American tour in nearly a decade. See the full docket below.
