Amidst recording of two new Smashing Pumpkins album, Billy Corgan has powered through two ambitious live performances based around modular synth. Now, he’s announced the release of a double LP of experimental recordings dubbed AEGEA, which will be released in limited quantity over the coming weeks.
According to a posting on the Pumpkins’ website, the recordings date back in spring 2007. “As a work, AEGEA is experimental in nature, and comes across as more a soundtrack to some lost foreign film than the kind of music I’m usually associated with,” Corgan wrote. Listening back I quite like how AEGEA goes along, as it has qualities that are both meditative and alien; but not alienating.”
The first pressing of AEGEA will be limited to 250 vinyl copies and primarily sold online, though a few copies will be available at his Madame Zuzu’s Teahouse in Highland Park, Illinois.
