The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has added The National to its soundtrack, NME confirms.
The band contributed a track titled “Dying is Lean,” which was originally dubbed “Dying is Easy.” As the report notes, the soundtrack almost didn’t include the song because it was “too dark” for the film, but the band tweaked the name to make it less macabre.
“The song almost didn’t make it because it was too dark for the Hunger Games soundtrack, which I thought was sort of funny because it’s about killing kids,” frontman Matt Berninger said in a statement to NME. “I don’t know how a song can be darker than that?”
The film is currently set for a Nov. 22 theatrical release. Berninger also contributed to Boardwalk Empire’s soundtrack recently with the tastefully retro “I’ll See You in my Dreams.”
