Nick Cave News da Pitchfork

Over the past few years, morbid-rock icons Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have been steadily reissuing their entire back catalog. On May 17 in North America and May 16 in Europe, they’ll release the next batch: 1994’s Let Love In, 1996’s Murder Ballads, 1997’s The Boatman’s Call, and 2001’s No More Shall We Part. If you’re keeping score at home, that’s albums eight through 11, and each one comes in a double-disc edition with all kinds of extras.

All the albums have been digitally remastered and remixed for 5.1 Surround Sound, and each one comes with a specially commissioned short film by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, as well as B-sides, videos, and exclusive liner notes. Below, we’ve got the tracklists for every last reissue, as well as the video for the sinister Let Love In classic “Red Right Hand”.

In other Nick Cave news, the man appears on the new EP Only the Lonely by UK trip-hop holdovers UNKLE, out April 4. Cave sings on leadoff track “Money and Run”. In a press release, Cave says, “I always had a huge soft spot for UNKLE– their pop sensibilities, their hooks, big choruses, their super-treated production– so when they sent me some music to sing over, I jumped at the chance. The song they sent was great too– something wonderfully dense about it, like T. Rex’s ‘Metal Guru’ or something. I wrote a lyric– something desperate sounding to run counterpoint to the joyful racket of the music. It’s a fucking hit.” The man is not modest.

Cave’s newer Grinderman project also has a couple of releases in the works. On March 14, they’ll release a single of the Grinderman 2 track “Palaces of Montezuma”. It’ll include a single mix from Cenzo Townshend, a remix from Barry Adamson, and a remix of “When My Baby Comes” by Cat’s Eyes, the new project from Horrors frontman Faris Badwan. And on Record Store Day, April 16, they’ll release a limited 12″ single for “Evil”, on red glitter vinyl with CD, with a few special remixes. On the “Silver Alert Remix”, by Bad Seeds/Grinderman drummer Jim Sclavunos and Peter Mavrogeorgis, the National singer Matt Berninger lends vocals. The idea of a Berninger vs. Cave baritone-off is a tempting idea indeed. The single will also include the original track, the “Michael Cliffe House Remix” by Factory Floor and “First Evil”, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis’ early demo of the song.

And since that’s just not enough Nick Cave news, this month Plexus will publish Nick Cave: Sinner Saint: The True Confessions, a book collecting memorable moments from 30 years of interviews. Former Mojo editor Mat Snow edited the collection, which includes photos from Bleddyn Butcher.
