Elbow have announced that their fifth album will be called ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’.
The album, out on March 7, is the follow-up to 2008’s ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’, which sold over 600,000 copies in the UK.
The Bury-formed five-piece have stuck to the pattern they established in the making of ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ and 2005’s ‘Leaders Of The Free World’ by recording it at Salford’s Blueprint Studios, with keyboard player Craig Potter acting as producer.
Speaking on BBC 6 Music, Guy Garvey said of the album: “I didn’t know whether it was good or not for a couple of weeks, but I’m very happy with it now.”
The band have also confirmed that the album features a contribution from Manchester’s Halle Youth Choir, who joined them at their gig at the city’s Bridgewater Hall in 2009.
Elbow will tour UK arenas next year, with the first show of their jaunt coming eight days after ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’ is released.
Garvey said that the band’s new material had been written with the tour’s venues firmly in mind. “It’s impossible not to consider where you’re going to play your music live when you write it,” he said. “We very arrogantly assumed we were going to be playing arenas very early on.”
The tracklisting for ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’ is:
‘Lippy Kids’
‘The Birds’
‘With Love’
‘Neat Little Rows’
‘Jesus Is A Rochdale Girl’
‘The Night Will Always Win’
‘High Ideals’
‘The River’
‘Open Arms’
‘The Birds (Reprise)’
‘Dear Friends’
