Sabato 24 luglio 2010: al Palazzo della Provincia di Bergamo si esibiranno nella loro unica apparizione italiana del tour estivo 2010 i leggendari Procol Harum. L’estate musicale orobica arriva al suo culmine grazie all’appassionato lavoro della direzione artistica della GeoMusic: con i Procol Harum si arricchisce il cartellone degli eventi di questa stagione.
Era il 1967 quando i Procol Harum debuttarono con A Whiter Shade of Pale: uno dei più famosi brani della storia del rock, capace di sconvolgere il mercato internazionale con oltre 10 milioni di copie vendute e una formula inconfondibile, romantica e suggestiva. Un successo mondiale che ha conosciuto una grande popolarità anche in Italia grazie alla versione dei Dik Dik Senza Luce. Il gruppo guidato dal grande pianista e vocalist Gary Brooker è passato alla storia con altri brani che sono diventati delle vere e proprie pietre miliari: pensiamo a Homburg del 1967 (in Italia come L’ora dell’amore dei Camaleonti) e A Salty Dog del 1969, che divenne la sigla di un popolare programma televisivo delle nostre reti.
Dopo l’uscita del decimo album Something Magic del 1977, il gruppo si sciolse e Brooker tra il 1979 e il 1985 pubblicò alcuni album solisti. Gary è stato a fianco della band di Eric Clapton e numerosissime sono le sue partecipazioni, come in Limelight nell’album Stereotomy (1985) dell’Alan Parsons Project.  Nel 1991 Gary Brooker, Keith Reid, Matthew Fisher e Robin Trower si riuniscono per la registrazione dell’undicesimo album The Prodigal Stranger, che la critica considera il miglior lavoro dell’intera discografia. Nel 1995 esce The Long Goodbye: The Symphonic Music of Procol Harum, nel 2003 The Well’s on Fire.
L’ultimo passaggio in Italia del gruppo è stato insieme ai New Trolls: 29 novembre del 2007 al Palasport di Torino. L’unico concerto dei Procol Harum in Italia quest’anno è un attesissimo evento, fortemente voluto dalla Provincia di Bergamo e reso possibile dalla compartecipazione della S.A.C.B.O. S.p.A., la società che gestisce l’aeroporto di Orio al Serio, e il sostegno della Fondazione Credito Bregamasco. Il concerto inizierà alle ore 21.00, ad ingresso libero: i posti, non prenotabili, sono limitati e quindi si consiglia di presentarsi ai cancelli con largo anticipo.

GRINDERMAN
Grinderman have revealed the artwork and tracklisting for their forthcoming new album.
Called ‘Grinderman 2’, the follow-up to their 2007 self-titled studio effort is released in the UK on September 13 and in North America on September 14.
The group, which is made up of Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos, are also issuing the first single from the album, ‘Heathen Child’ on August 30.
As previously reported, the band will embark on a UK tour in September to coincide with the release of the new LP.

Arcade Fire played their first London gig in three years tonight (July 7) – with frontman Win Butler trying out his “banter” ahead of the band’s fortcoming headline appearances at the Reading And Leeds Festivals.
The Canadian band aired material from their upcoming new album ‘The Suburbs’ at Hackney Empire, the first time they had performed in the UK capital since their Alexandra Palace shows in November 2007.
During the 18-song set Butler teased the crowd, whom he had stagedived into earlier, about the England football team’s recent exit from the World Cup.
He said: “I hear England have a really good chance,” despite their exit from the tournament 10 days ago (June 27), after a 4-1 defeat to Germany in the last 16.
After a chorus of boos, Butler protested: “We’re just practising banter for Reading and Leeds!”
Watched by the likes of Florence Welch and comedian Mathew Horne, the group began with two new songs – ‘Ready To Start’ and ‘Modern Man’ – and aired another six over the course of the evening. They were ‘Empty Room’, ‘Rococo’, ‘Suburban War’, ‘We Used To Wait’ and both sides of their recent limited edition single, ‘Month Of May’ and the new album’s title track.
The band also played a host of old classics, including ‘Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)’, Rebellion (Lies)’ – and rare outing for 2005 full-length debut album ‘Funeral”s ‘Crown Of Love’.
