U2 fans going to see the upcoming concert in Oakland will get a second opening act: a local band called Moonalice.
Who’s Moonalice, you ask?
Moonalice is a Bay Area-based band that features, among others, Roger McNamee on bass, guitar, and vocals. He also happens to be the Managing Director and Co-Founder of Elevation Partners — the private investment firm founded in 2004. Bono is also a Managing Director and Co-Founder there, as you probably know.
This won’t be the first time friends of the band have been given opening act duties before a U2 concert. In 2006, Rocko and the Devils — led by U2 roadie Rocko Reedy — opened during the Vertigo Tour show in Hawaii. In 2005, Steve Averill’s band, The Radiators, opened in Dublin. Averill has worked with U2 since the band’s earliest days; he and his company have designed nearly every album and single the band has released.
As far as Moonalice is concerned, they’re an actual touring band that’s playing this summer all across the U.S. You can learn more about that at Moonalice.com.
