As reported by the San Francisco Examiner (via NME) and confirmed by their label, MGMT‘s new album is calledCongratulations. Whether the title turns out to be generous or pompous, we’ll just have to wait and see.
In fact, there are very few nailed-down details when it comes to the record, except for the fact that it’s due out sometime next year. The Examiner piece revealed that the duo is recording in Malibu and Spacemen 3’s Peter “Sonic Boom” Kember is handling production duties, while Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux/RTX is set to provide some guest vocals.
The band played a few new tunes– including the title track– at gigs over the summer. Check out YouTubes of those after the jump:
“Congratulations”
“It’s Working”
“Song for Dan Treacy”

Bee Gees to perform on Strictly
The surviving members of the Bee Gees have been lined up to perform on a future episode of Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC has confirmed.
It will be their first TV performance since Maurice Gibb died during emergency surgery in 2003.
Best known for hits such as Night Fever and Staying Alive, brothers Robin and Barry will appear on 31 October.
After Maurice’s death, the brothers said they would no longer use the Bee Gees name.
But in 2008, Robin told the BBC News website they would perform again “when the time is right”.
Last month, they confirmed that they were working together again.
“The two of us are getting back together again as we speak,” Robin – who was Maurice’s twin – revealed on BBC Radio’s Test Match Special.
Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb were one of the biggest acts of the 1970s and won multiple Grammy awards during their career.
The band’s hits spanned five decades and included Massachusetts, Night Fever, Tragedy, How Deep is Your Love and You Win Again.
A spokeswoman for Strictly Come Dancing confirmed the Gibb brothers would be performing on Halloween.
