George Benson esordisce sul palco del Pescara Jazz Festival, e lo fa alla grande: questa sera alle 21.15, presso il teatro D’Annunzio, andrà in scena “An unforgettable Tribute”, l’omaggio che il chitarrista renderà al grande Nat King Cole.
Per celebrare uno dei musicisti più amati del ‘900, Benson si prepara a condurre un ensemble decisamente ampio: al suo sestetto, infatti, si aggiungeranno un coro e l’Orchestra Sinfonica Pescarese, per una suggestiva interpretazione della musica del cantante e pianista statunitense. Nat King Cole è stato un maestro di eleganza e raffinatezza: George ne ripercorrerà il repertorio alternando momenti intimi, affidati alla formazione ristretta, e passaggi allargati all’intera orchestra e al coro. Una scelta intrigante e particolare, necessaria per dare ritmo e varietà all’esibizione, ma anche per valorizzare al meglio i brani resi celebri da Nat King Cole e le potenzialità di tutti i musicisti coinvolti.
Il concerto di George Benson è una produzione del Pescara Jazz, originale per l’Italia. Da sottolineare che la Sinfonica di Pescara è stata scelta per accompagnare Benson anche nelle sue due altre esibizioni italiane, ad Umbria Jazz e Veneto Jazz. In particolare, ieri sera a Perugia il chitarrista di Pittsburgh ha mostrato le sue due facce artistiche presentandosi, in alternativa, come crooner con tanto di orchestra d’archi alle spalle e come scatenato performer r&b con la sua band. E’ stato, inutile dirlo, un successo.

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke debuted a new song during his 12 noon Latitude festival show today (July 19).
Despite the fact Yorke was the first act on the Obelisk Arena (Latitude’s main stage) today, a huge crowd turned out to see him run through a range of Radiohead and solo tracks.
Mid-way through the set, Yorke informed the crowd that the next song he would play was unreleased.
“This is a new song, so you know – go for a piss,” he joked to the huge audience.
For the track, he sat down and played a simple fingerpicked melody on his acoustic guitar. Lyrically, the song seemed to be one of Yorke’s most personal, with the frontman repeating “I’m Lost In You” toward its end.
Yorke was in comedic mood throughout his set.
“Shhhh! There’s people sleeping! Have you got any jokes?!” he said as he came onstage. “Ah fuck,” the frontman exclaimed at the start of first song ‘The Eraser’.
After finishing the track, Yorke launched straight into a solo rendition of Radiohead track ‘Weird Fishes/Arpeggi’, garnering whoops of delight from the crowd.
Backed by a drum machine, he played the track’s lilting melody on a harpsichord-sounding keyboard that was set up in the middle of the stage.
On ‘Harrowdown Hill’ (Yorke’s David Kelly-referencing track) he initially played, recorded and then looped the song’s bassline, before putting his instrument down and singing the song while at his keyboard. He ended the track by playing a guitar over the bass loop – the six-stringed instrument havin been handed to him mid-song by a roadie.
“Ill be your bitch,” the singer joked to the reserved crowd after the track.
He then played an impassioned rendition of rare Radiohead song ‘Follow Me Around’, saying “That track’s kind of been on the shelf for a while.”
One of the best-recieved songs in Yorke’s hour long set was Radiohead classic, ‘Everything In Its Right Place’, which Yorke played on a grand piano, accompanied by a simple 4/4 beat.
“It’ll be a miracle if this works,” he said as he drummed out the looped beat to ‘Black Swan’ on the body of his acoustic guitar.
Despite his reservations, Yorke played a near-perfect rendition of the track, which is taken from his debut solo album ‘The Eraser’.
Yorke initially left the stage after playing ‘Videotape’, though he returned after a short while for a two song encore.
“So, er, did anyone see Grace Jones?” He said upon returning to the stage, referring to last night’s Latitude headliner, who’s set saw her don several flamboyant outfits. “I want those costume changes,” Yorke continued. “A g-string…you think that’s a good idea?!”
Yorke then played an impassioned take of Radiohead’s 2003 single ‘There There’, before finishing his set with another Radiohead rarity, ‘True Love Waits’.
“This is another song that fell off the shelf once…and it’s still there,” he said before playing the track on guitar.
Referring to why he decided to play the unusually-timed slot at the festival, Yorke said: “I thought it was a nuts idea, which is why I did it!”

comunque…. quattro anni fa’ (era il 20 luglio 2005) scrivevo cos’ del concerto degli U2 a s.siro:
In sette anni il rito è mutato: dall’assalto concettuale e kitsch del Popmart ad oggi i cambiamenti sono più che evidenti, ma ciò che è rimasto inattaccabile è il feeling capace d’instaurarsi tra la band e il suo pubblico (forse è addirittura cresciuto).
Uno scambio di emozioni che va al di là della qualità della performance, dell’avanguardia e dei contenuti dello show: qualcosa d’indescrivibile, in grado di lasciarmi (ancora una volta, anno dopo anno) senza parole.

su Thom vedi sopra e vedi post giorni precedenti con altro inedito……..sugli u2 hai fotografato esattamente cosa sono loro dal vivo……nessuno ha un rapporto similare col pubblico e riesce a darti una carica del genere.Non solo nel Vertigo,nel 360 ,ma sempre anche in passato in ogni tournee…….ma ti assicuro che a me basta vedere o sentire un dvd o un cd live…….e mi danno la stessa sensazione.Buon concerto b16 e gustatelo fino in fondo ,gli Snow Patrol ,se vuoi un consiglio,non sono male,ma solo verso la fine….per il resto li ho trovati molto ripetitivi.Rock on e domani aspettiamo le tue impressioni a caldo ( anche stanotte!).Saranno due gg speciali per il rock caffe’ con APERTURE STRAORDINARIE IN ORARI STRANI E BUONA BIRRA E CAFFE’ GRATIS PER TUTTI.rock on

Odio il fanatismo, odio qualsiasi forma di estremismo, sia in campo politico, religioso e sociale!
Odio i fan-club, odio quella maniera di vedere le cose in maniera scorretta pur di portare acqua al proprio mulino.
Basterebbe vedere le cose per come sono.
Dopo “The Soshua Tree” e il successivo “Achtung Baby” gli U2 hanno iniziato una parabola discendente, ormai vivono di rendita, ci siamo illusi che potessero sfornare l’ennesimo capolavoro, ma pubblicano solo dei lavori mediocri e dobbiamo farcene una ragione.
E certi orpelli nei live servono solo a camuffare la mediocrità che c’è nel proporre la musica dal vivo.
Ci siamo scagliati per anni contro i live di madonna, ma adesso questi U2 sono indifendibili.
La maggior parte dei concerti sono solo musica da vedere, fatta eccezione per qualcuno( vedi il Boss l’altra sera a roma).
No, questi U2 non li ho visti e non voglio vederli, voglio conservare il ricordo di quando ero giovane, era un 31 dicembre, mi sono attaccato alla radio per ascoltare un concerto in diretta da Dublino, musica da ascoltare, musica vera e non di plastica!!!!!!

ragazzi ,ma non sapete la fortuna che avete se risiedete a Milano…..ci sono concerti ogni settimana…..io mi devo “ciucciare” sempre centinaia di chilometri e raramente mi becco Pesaro o Bologna ,le locations piu’ vicine………Benson e’ stratosferico ,sorpattutto negli album anni 80……..grazie knife edge……dedica speciale con Lucky Man e la voce di Lake:-))))
