Jack White Preps New Third Man Releases
Platters from the Dead Weather, Mildred and the Mice, Rachelle Garniez
If Jack White had his way, all of his music would probably be available exclusively on sandpapery hand-crafted 78s. That’s just the kind of willfully anachronistic guy he is. So we have to imagine he’s loving the recent vinyl resurgence. Next week, White’s Third Man Records will release three new 7″ singles, including one from his new band the Dead Weather. Make sure your needles are clean.
The Dead Weather, White’s new band with Kills singer Allison Mosshart, already released one single, “Hang You From the Heavens”. White will release their next single, “Treat Me Like Your Mother”, on May 25. White produced the 7″, which includes a cover of Them’s “You Just Can’t Win” on the B-side.
White also produced the other two Third Man singles coming out on Monday. One of them, “My House of Peace”, comes from the mystic New York singer-songwriter Rachelle Garniez. The other, “I Like My Mice (Dead)”/”Spider Bite”, is credited to the mysterious new band Mildred and the Mice, which is rumored to include White’s wife, model Karen Elson. Hard to say from this MySpace photo, but Mildred sure could be Elson in a ratty-as-hell black wig. The band supposedly comes from Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, and the two song snippets on the MySpace page sound like uber-crude PJ Harvey parodies, so make of that what you will.
Third Man is already taking pre-orders for all three singles. And if you feel like making the trip to Third Man’s Nashville store, you’ll be able to buy one of 100 “tri-colored, jukebox-labeled vinyl designed and created by Jack White and manufactured at Nashville’s historic United Record Pressing plant,” per a press release. According to White’s publicist, the songs will all be available on iTunes eventually.
As previously reported, Third Man is also set to release a single by the Dex Romweber Duo, featuring contributions from White.
Horehound, the Dead Weather’s debut album, will be out on July 14 in the UK on Third Man via Warner Bros. In the UK, it’s due a day earlier via Third Man/Columbia. The band will tour this summer, which will probably keep White from releasing too many more fun, goofy projects like these. Enjoy them while you can.

Keith Richards attending Bernard Fowler show (iorr.org)
Keith showed up last night at the Bernard Fowler show in NYC….He arrived around 9:20 last night with Patti. Alexandra and Theodora were in the house as well doing a dj/spin set before bernard took the stage…Waddy Wachtel was on guitar last night and was awesome….and no Keith did not play…was great to see him in the crowd though.
absolute chaos as he arrived as everyone ignored that barriers and pushed up toward him. he really ran the guantlet and was so sweet and polite as people swarmed him. the last song was JJF and it was a total tribute at “The Man” in the house. the venue was TINY and keith watched the show from the balcony on the side. during JJF he tipped his hat to bernard and all of us. the whole night was great. a total party.
