Animal Collective will launch their own online radio station tonight (July 29).
Band member Panda Bear will broadcast new mixes alongside guests Black Dice, Haunted Graffiti and Sublime Frequencies at 9pm CST (2am BST) from www.radio.myanimalhome.net. Shows will then air every week until August 19. The group made the announcement via a cryptic video message, which you can view below.
The Baltimore electro-psych band will release new album ‘Centipede Hz’, their first studio effort since 2009’s ‘Merriweather Post Pavillion’, on September 3. It will be their 10th album and follows the release of 2010’s “visual album” ‘ODDSAC’.
Last month, in an interview with The Stool Pigeon, the band’s Josh Dibb (also known as Deakin) said the new material will be more of a challenge for listeners.
He said: “I remember saying, ‘This is going to be harder for people to swallow.’ There’s no doubt about it: people are going to react to this….There was an instant melodic gratification to Merriweather and I think we intentionally made a record this time that is a lot more…um… [laughs] We took a left turn at weird town.
“From the first note of Merriweather you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I just wanna dance’ or ‘My heart’s exploding.’ This is more like, ‘This is amazing but I’m confused and I don’t quite know what’s going on and I think I need to listen to it again and maybe I should turn it off.'”
