Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd have announced two concerts in the New York region for the summer, and tickets begin going on sale today.
Skynyrd is arguably one of the most important classic rock bands of all time, with hits like Sweet Home Alabama, Simple Man, and of course Freebird all radio mainstays for decades now. Despite having only one remaining member from their classic lineup, the band has been rebuilt with Johnny Van Zant, brother of the late Ronnie Van Zant on vocals, and supplemented by the spectacular guitarwork of Rickey Medlocke, who was briefly a member of Skynyrd before the band was signed – watch my 2009 interview with Medlocke here.
The group only played a single local show at New Jersey’s PNC Arts Center last summer (my review here), but that followed a four date regional run the previous fall which saw shows at Jones Beach, the Beacon Theater, the Theater at Westbury, and the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ, all in support of new album God & Guns.

Now Skynyrd has booked August shows at both Jones Beach and PNC Arts Center, with the Doobie Brother openings, in what is sure to be one of the summer’s best shows. Tickets for the August 17th Jones Beach date go on sale this Saturday, with a radio presale beginning Friday morning, and the August 21st PNC show is already available via Livenation presale by using password “Q104.”
