If you’ve ever attended a Metallica show, you might have heard the band rattle off a snippet or brief teaser of “Frayed Ends Of Sanity” from 1988?s …And Justice for All. However, in their 30-plus-year history, Metallica’s never actually performed the song in its entirety. In fact, it’s the only track across all nine Metallica albums to merit such a distinction.
Until now, that is. During their Wednesday night set at Sonsisphere Festival in Helsinki, Metallica performed the triumphant anthem in its entirety for the first time ever.
The Sonsiphere performance kicks off Metallica’s European leg, which also includes appearances at the Rock Im Park, Rock Werchter, and Pinkpop festivals. Once again, the shows fall under Metallica by Request rules, where fans vote on each night’s 17-song setlist from a larger pool of 130.
