A new financing agreement announced today between Exclusive Media and Da Vinci Media Ventures has hinted at the release of a biopic based on The Who’s legendary drummer Keith Moon, says THR. Moon, whose virtuosity behind the drums was outshined only by his excessive and self-destructive behavior, died in 1978 after a clomethiazole overdose.
Band frontman Roger Daltrey has been working with Exclusive Media CEO Nigel Sinclair on getting the biopic off the ground, and it has been reported that the company is now seeking a writer for the long-delayed project.
“The Keith Moon project is one close to my heart so I am excited to reinvigorate it and grateful to Wendy, Toby and Da Vinci for their enthusiastic support,” Daltrey said in a statement.
During Moon’s tenure as drummer, The Who grew from their place as British protopunkers in the mid-‘60s to true rock innovators with the release of increasingly ornate ’rock operas’ Tommy and Quadrophenia. Moon’s contributions as a drummer are extensive, and he has frequently been cited as one of the greatest drummers of all-time. The Who announced plans last month to embark on one last tour in 2015 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1965 debut My Generation.
