Hi friends of Okkervil River et. al, this is Will writing you.
I wanted to let you know that Down Down the Deep River, the film I wrote and directed and scored, is up for pre-order right now on www.downdownthedeepriver.com.??The film’s a fictionalized re-imagining of my childhood and a sort of re-telling of the Okkervil River song of the same name, all filtered through a tribute to children’s fantasy films of the 1980s. I went back to my old hometown, my elementary school, and the woods where I used to play when I was a kid and cast local child actors from the area to make the film, and we shot throughout the spring, summer, fall and winter of 2013-2014. It was an incredibly difficult and detailed undertaking and I’m immensely proud of the result.??The pre-order for the film will be available in multiple digital editions, a standard “VHS Edition” containing just the film for download and streaming, a “Betamax Edition” which adds the downloadable Original Motional Picture Soundtrack, and a deluxe “Laserdisc Edition” that includes downloads of the film, the Soundtrack, a special documentary featurette on the making of the film, a commentary track with myself and the Director of Photography Johnny North, some really cool deleted scenes, and a collection of behind-the-scenes materials.??Also, everybody who pre-orders now can grab a free brand-new track for download – an extensive musical and lyrical re-write of “Down Down the Deep River,” created in light of the finished film. It was a fun song to record.??Down Down the Deep River will be seeing its New York City debut at the beautiful Museum of the Moving Image this month, on Saturday, July 25th at 7:30 PM. I’ll be doing a short musical performance before the show and a Q&A afterwards. The link to buy tickets for that performance is here: http://bit.ly/1UwXw8E??Appropriate to the film’s New England setting we’ll be doing a two-night special sneak preview as part of the Maine International Film Festival on July 15th and 17th (I will be appearing at the latter screening to do a Q&A) and you can buy tickets for either of those shows at http://www.miff.org/2015-films/.??Stay tuned later in the year for more news about this film. It was such a fun undertaking and I’m so excited for you all to get to see it. In the meantime I hope everyone has an awesome summer.??Yours ever,?Will
