Black Sabbath is planning a new album and tour, according to Ozzy Osbourne. Metal Hammer reports that the band, including original members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Osbourne, hopes to begin writing new material in early 2015.
Rick Ruben is expected to reprise his role as producer, continuing a long-running collaboration that began in 2001 and bore fruit in 2013 with the highly successful release of Black Sabbath’s most recent album, 13. That record topped sales charts in the U.S. as well as in the U.K., where the band broke a record by posting a Number One album nearly 43 years after Paranoid hit Number One in 1970.
Osbourne said of the 13 tour, “The whole Sabbath experience this time around was great … It was a lot of fun. So we’re going to do one more album and a final tour.” Guitarist Tony Iommi’s current battle with lymphoma could impact the band’s plans, however. “Obviously a lot of it is coming down to Tony’s health,” Osbourne said. “He’s obviously got his cancer treatment, but we’ll get into it next year. I don’t know if we’ll be writing in England or L.A., but I’ll fly to the fucking moon for it if I have to!”
The band has been unable to reach an agreement with original drummer Bill Ward and has relied on drummers like Tommy Clufetos and Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine to fill the position.
