The 1st of June, 2014 at 8:59 Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl teases ‘Sonic Highways’ television series with trailer – watch The eight part HBO show visits recording studios across North America.
Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl heads up the first trailer for his new television series, which visits recording studios across North America as the band record their upcoming album.
The title of the show has been revealed as Sonic Highways and you can watch the promo clip by clicking below. “It all started with the idea of recording in different studios all over the country,” says Grohl in the voiceover. “Doing something to make it new. You can tie all of these people and places together with these ‘sonic highways’. This is a musical map of America.”
Each of the eight episodes of the HBO show will see the band travel to a different US city to write and record the album: Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, DC and New York. In each location, they visited a renowned studio to record a track for the album, that Grohl describes as “a love letter to the history of American music”. Frontman Dave Grohl will operate as director on the project, following his Sound City documentary of 2013. Foo Fighters released their last album, ‘Wasting Light’, in 2011.
The band revealed in January that sessions for their new album were “fucking on” by posting a picture of a row of master tapes labelled ‘Foo Fighters LP 8’ to their official Instagram. Speaking to BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Grohl said: “I know what it sounds like and I honestly think the entire concept is really going to take people by surprise and it sounds nuts.”
Each song features local musical figures, and every lyric was written on the very last day of each session, meaning the experiences and personalities became part of the process. Guests include Chicago bluesman Buddy Guy. Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, says: “Dave’s heartfelt passion for this project is contagious and his talent as a musician and filmmaker is undeniable. We are excited to go on this journey with him and the Foo Fighters for this insider’s look at how regional music inspired them to create their own new music.”
