Swans will return in May with a new studio album. Entitled To Be Kind, it serves as the follow-up to The Seer, which earned a Top 5 placement on our 2012 Album of the Year list.
According to Pitchfork, To Be Kind features an appearance from St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, who “sang numerous, multi-tracked vocals throughout the record.” Other contributors include Cold Specks, Little Annie, and Bill Rieflin, in addition to the usual lineup of Michael Gira, Norman Westberg, Christoph Hahn, Phil Puleo, Thor Harris, and Christopher Pravdica.
The album was recorded by Gira and recorded at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas. A press release adds, “The source material for the album is music developed in live performance during the recent tours, as well as songs written by Gira on acoustic guitar, orchestrated and arranged in the studio.”
Due out May 13th via Gira’s own Young God in the US and Mute Records worldwide, the album will be available digitally, as a double CD, a deluxe double CD that includes a live DVD or, as a triple vinyl. Gira is also kicking around the idea of releasing a USB flashdrive “so that this ultimate, high quality version can be listened to from beginning to end.”
