The Rolling Stones have failed to sell out all of their higher priced tickets for tonight’s (May 3) tour opening show in Los Angeles.
The Guardian reports that though all of the cheaper tickets at the Staples Center have been snapped up, lots of the $600 (£386) seats and floor spaces for the show still remain.
Yesterday, the band released more $85 (£55) tickets for the gig, which kicks off their 50 and Counting run of dates, which will see a host of shows in North America, before the iconic band headline Glastonbury Festival next month and then play two shows at London’s Hyde Park in July.
Ronnie Wood defended the high prices for the tickets to the band’s London shows last year at The O2 to The Telegraph, saying:
“We’ve already spent a million on rehearsing in Paris and the stage is going to be another few million. And the lights. We feel no bad thing about ticket prices. We’ve got to make something.”
To warm up for the current tour The Rolling Stones played a tiny club show in Los Angeles last Saturday (April 27).
The gig took place at The Echoplex in the trendy Echo Park neighbourhood. Most $20 tickets were distributed to fans via a ticket lottery which took place earlier in the day at the El Rey venue across town.
Jagger was on energetic form throughout the hour-and-a -half long show, dancing and chatting with the crowd. “Thank you very much, you’re too good to us,” he said towards the end of the set. “The first show of the tour, probably the best one!”
A host of VIPs also attended the Echoplex gig, including Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis, Owen Wilson and members of Green Day and No Doubt.
