Wilco Live a Milano
Nessuno vuole negare ai puristi della musica colta che le pareti della Sala Verdi del Conservatorio di Milano abbiano assorbito note molto più auliche, aristocratiche, blasonate e illustri del feedback della chitarra di Nels Cline; ma se un gruppo rock alternativo meritava una simile cornice, questi sono i Wilco: senza dubbio, la migliore live band della musica “indie” (o chiamatela come volete).
Difficile trovare dei difetti all’esibizione milanese, ma il gruppo di Jeff Tweedy mi impressionò così tanto due anni fa a Torino che questa sera è stata solo una conferma. Tralasciamo le iperboli, ma parliamo di eccellenza assoluta per quanto la riguarda la completezza sorprendente di questa band americana, capace di spaziare dal rock liminale in stile Sonic Youth al nuovo folk e al pop più luccicante, toccando il puro rock&roll, la psichedelia e l’originario alternative country; persino il soul, e il geniale krautrock di un pezzo incredibile come Spiders (Kidsmoke). Completezza e versatilità riguardano anche l’organico, composto da musicisti ormai affiatati e affidabili. Due ore e mezza di concerto hanno fatto scattare in piedi tutta la sala, meritatissima standing ovation finale; ma a scatenare applausi a scena aperta sono stati molti momenti di bravura impressionante, tra tutti scegliamo il finale di Misunderstood, tutto bordate e stop & go all’unisono, e quello di Via Chicago, in cui la band si accavalla suonando completamente disarticolata ma senza una sbavatura. È mancato, paradossalmente, solo il black out di qualche minuto che rese indimenticabile l’esecuzione di Kidsmoke allo spazio 211, trasformandola nel momento trionfale di quel concerto, quando al buio Glenn Kotche continuò a tenere il ritmo, noi pubblico cantammo e battemmo le mani insieme alla band e avanti così finché non torno l’elettricità e ripartirono gli strumenti per il gran finale. Stavolta nessun problema all’impianto, ma sarebbe stato bello ripetere quell’esperienza.
Sul palco arriva una rosa con un biglietto: “Wilco, il miglior gruppo dopo i Grateful Dead”. Forse non sarà così ma Tweedy e i suoi sono sempre una spalla sonica su cui piangere e a cui appoggiarsi quando si desiderano certezze.

Nota: I Grizzly Bear, autori del recente Veckatimest uno degli album più interessanti della stagione 2009 e ospiti del tour dei Wilco, avrebbero dovuto aprire lo show milanese. Purtroppo, con grande dispiacere di alcuni fan, il concerto è stato cancellato a causa di un incidente del tour-bus accaduto nella giornata di venerdì nel tragitto fra Monaco e Milano. Non ci sono stati feriti.
